How to Wear a Menswear-Inspired Suit, According to ELLE’s Fashion Director

I’ve always been a fan of a uniform, and I particularly love a blazer and a statement-making pair of trousers. The tailored pieces come in handy when I want to feel confident and put-together. Luckily, suiting is no longer reserved only for the guys. Every woman should own a suit or two, especially since they come with so many styling possibilities.

This trend was everywhere on the spring/summer 2025 runways. Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent perfected the look with over 20 sharp-shouldered blazers and billowing trousers in chalk pinstripes, gray flannels, Prince of Wales checks, and traditional menswear fabrics. Of course, some of these outfits were elevated with a chic heel and Yves-coded sunglasses—a Parisian-chic outfit formula that never goes out of style.

Great suiting options were also seen at Loewe, Willy Chavarria, Stella McCartney, The Row, and Moschino, to name several more. So, naturally, we felt compelled to feature a few of our favorite designs in the February issue of ELLE. If you’re looking for ways to shop the photo-worthy look, discover our favorite menswear-inspired pieces, below.

Back-to-Business Blazers

A blazer with a button-down shirt and a good pair of jeans is a classic outfit formula that never gets old. Invest in one of these great pieces, and your dressing options are endless. Oh, and don’t forget, a good double-breasted jacket in a longer silhouette also works as a mini coat-dress. In this case, it’s totally fine to leave the pants at the office!

The Titan Trouser

Slashed and deconstructed pants were also a big trend, as exhibited at Victoria Beckham. The designer showed us how to style oversized trousers with either a one-shoulder jacket or a draped chiffon top. For the adventurous fashionistas, the one-legged pant trend emerged at Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, and Coperni. No matter your preference, you can always elevate a pair of tailored pants with heels or downplay them with a casually cool T-shirt and comfy sneakers.

Meet-Your-Match Suiting

Still not sure if you can pull off the menswear-inspired look? Take the guesswork out of getting dressed with coordinating separates. Play mix and match with boxy blazers or try the suit vest trend layered with a turtleneck in the winter or all on its own in the summer.
